A rare and early example of the iconic A2 leather flight jacket, as worn by USAAF airmen during the Second World War. This particular jacket was produced by H.C.B. Corp Sport Apparel of New York and is considered a pre-contract model—manufactured before standardized government issue, yet virtually identical to the regulation WWII A2 jacket.
Constructed in seal brown leather, this jacket features all the classic elements collectors look for: the pointed collar with button-down tabs, faux epaulettes, twin front patch pockets with button flaps, and original wool cuffs and waistband. The original Talon zipper—also used on wartime contract jackets—is fully functional.
This example appears to date from around 1937–1938 and is estimated to be a size 40. It shows genuine service wear and retains a great patina. Of particular note is the original leather name tag reading R.L. Fish, sewn above a faded and unidentifiable painted squadron patch.
The internal cotton lining remains complete, though there is some shredding near the coat hanger hook under the maker label. The original waistband and cuffs are present, showing typical moth nips from age. Overall, this is a desirable early-war A2 jacket with excellent character and provenance.
A seldom-seen opportunity for collectors of WWII flight gear and original USAAF A2 jackets.
