SS-Gruppenfuhrer Fritz von Scholz (1896-1944)
Two original RK Eichenlaub Vorschlag and Personnel File "Field Headquarters"
Mar. 6, 1944. Himmler approves a "Vorschlag", or
recommendation by Waffen-SS General Felix Steiner to award the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves to SS-Brigadefuhrer Fritz von Scholz.
Himmler personally signs his copy of the official request for the award, which is countersigned by General Rudolf Schmundt, mortally wounded in the July 20, 1944 bomb attempt on Hitler's life. Von Scholz himself would be killed a few months later as a result of an artillery barrage and be awarded his Swords posthumously. A few edges tears at top margin, file holes and light even toning, else very good This set includes a second original six-page folio regarding the approval of the award of the Oakleaves to Gruppenführer von Scholz, the cover page is followed by a summary of von Scholz's career, awards and leadership of SS Panzer Grenadier Division 'Nordland', next is the detailed account of the desperate combat in early 1944 on the eastern front and how von Scholz's tenacious and forceful leadership was decisive in preventing collapse, included are pages documenting Steiner and Himmler's endorsements of the award and submission for approval by Hitler, the document was further endorsed and again signed by General Rudolf Schmundt, Chief of the Personnel Department, Schmundt's signature confirmed that Hitler had read and approved the application for award of the oakleaves, the document was typed on the special large
"Führer" typewriter as used at the Führerhauptquartier so Hitler could more easily read it. Included is his original four-page Personalnachweis with wartime photo (18cm x 13cm) of von Scholz stapled at the edge, noting ranks, promotions, assignments, awards and death resulting from wounds. Finally, there are photocopies of a biography with photos and a typewritten translation of the Vorschlag, all pieces are stored in a protective binder with notes from a former owner, a very interesting set detailing the career of a well-known historical figure. Important Research Note: This grouping comes with the complete military record of SS-Gruppenfuhrer Fritz von Scholz; including his copies of his SS Personnel File held at the U.S. National Archives (microfilm records).
