An excellent example of the iconic Type 90 combat helmet worn by Japanese troops throughout WWII. The exterior retains its full original paint finish, complete with the army star to the front. Around the lower edge, faint traces of a slightly different shade of paint form a hand-applied line — a marking applied at army facilities once a shell and liner had been assembled together, signifying the helmet was complete and ready for issue. (This feature is unique to army-issued helmets; naval examples were supplied fully assembled from the factory and lack this line.)
The interior rear skirt bears a single Kanji character denoting size. The liner is fully intact and in good condition, constructed from multiple shades of tan leather in a triangular patchwork fashion — a characteristic feature of 1941 production, when liners were made from leftover factory materials. Behind the front liner pad is an ink block stamp with Japanese characters. The helmet retains its original drawstring, with all three liner pads present — two still containing their inner cushions, one now missing. The full-length neck tie tapes remain, reinforced with period stitching.
A superb and complete example of a WWII Japanese Army combat helmet.
