Any form of body armour of Japanese origin from WWII has to be considered exceptionally rare. We have managed to obtain three different patterns. The first pattern described here is a sleeveless vest having six individual curved steel plates placed inside the vest and held in place with strung eyelets. One of the plates is marked size ‘4’ with Japanese kanji lettering. The labels originally inside the vest close to the neck have been removed. This vest has rust marks flooding through from below; all its original 7 closure buttons are still fitted. The vest is adjustable on the sides with canvas straps and buckles for a closer fit to the wearer. We have been advised that this is an issued example and has to be considered extremely rare.
