A fine example of a Japanese WWII officer’s Shin Gunto presentation piece, featuring a traditionally hand-forged blade dated to 1864 and signed by the maker Inoue Masa Kuni. This example is accompanied by written, traceable provenance, believed to have been brought home by a Burma Campaign veteran. The straight blade design is said to signify noble lineage within the officer class.
The blade remains in superb condition, showing a well-defined hamon and excellent polish. The fittings are particularly striking, with a beautifully crafted tsuba retaining much of its original fine finish. The original scabbard shows expected surface abrasions to the painted finish but remains free of any major dents. An original sword knot is also present, still firmly attached.
This display piece is sold with a detailed written history and documentation.
