Japanese Officers Display Piece With Family Mon

An exceptionally scarce Japanese officers display piece retaining the highly desirable family Mon, a feature encountered on only a very small number of surviving examples. This piece is fitted with a superb hand-forged steel profile measuring approximately 27 inches, showing a striking contrast between the wavy hardened edge line and the highly polished surface. The tang is unsigned.
The ray skin–covered grip remains undamaged and retains its original wrapping, which shows honest service wear but remains supple and intact. The ray skin beneath the top cap is also undamaged, with the family Mon firmly attached to the upper mount. All original washers are present, and the junior officers rank strap in blue and brown remains in place.
The metal scabbard retains virtually all of its original olive drab paint, with only slight loss visible just below the hanging ring. All other fittings retain good, consistent colour throughout. A particularly fine Japanese officers display piece with clear family association through the Mon, offering strong potential for further research into the family lineage.
