Italian WWII OND Sports and Culture Banner - Pesaro

This is a silk banner representing the Opera Nazionale Dopolavoro (OND), the national organization for sports and culture in Italy. The piece is constructed in the national colours of red, white, and green, featuring detailed Italian embroidery characteristic of the period.

The centre of the banner displays the fascist emblem, with the embroidered text Dopolavoro Provinciale Pesaro located below. The silk on the central emblem shows some slight shredding, and the white silk section at the base of the central area is slightly shot. There are a few minor moth nips and a stain located between the two rows of lettering at the top. The banner is finished with a gold fringe and multi-coloured loops for pole suspension.

The reverse side retains a manufacturer label from a banner producer in Florence. Below this label, there is heavy staining on the reverse, likely caused by contact with a suspension pole during its period of use. This is a significant piece of social and political history from the provincial administration of Pesaro.
