ITALIAN WWII MUSSOLINI WALL PLAQUE

A highly interesting mosaic wall plaque in the colours of blue, grey pink, light green showing the head and upper bust of the Italian leader Benito Mussolini wearing his MVSN steel helmet. The plaque itself measures 26cm x 34 cm, with its frame measuring 30.5 cm x 39 cm, and it is 5 cm thick. This is an amazing item that was cut from a wall somewhere in the occupied territories of North Africa by a South African soldier and taken back to South Africa, framed and displayed from WWII to today.  The reverse side of the frame has an Italian newspaper lining; part of the paper used to cover the rear of the very thick mosaic plaque has come adrift, but much is still in situ. Complete with a multi-wire hanging cord. The mosaic and cement plaque itself weighs just under a fraction of 5kg. It is beautifully executed, and it is amazing that a South African soldier would have cut an item of this considerable weight from a wall and taken it back to South Africa and had it framed. A fine backdrop for an Italian-based collection.
