Italian WWI Aviators Leather Flying Helmet

A rare example of an Italian aviator’s leather flying helmet from World War I. Constructed with a padded leather central bowl and a cruciform arrangement of padded leather panels, with an extra-thick crash pad running around the exterior for added protection. The ear coverings are slightly frail from age, but the helmet remains complete with its original chinstrap and buckle. The interior retains its lining, with the original owner’s initials NP present, along with the maker’s gilt label to the upper crown: Sanatti, Roma. A scarce and desirable piece of early military aviation equipment.
