This is a 140 cm section of an official wreath ribbon, of the type utilised for state funerals and commemorative tributes during the Third Reich. As it was not possible for the head of state to attend every high-profile funeral in person, these ribbons were frequently laid on his behalf to honour significant military and political figures.
The ribbon is crafted from high-quality watered red silk and features a gold-fringed base. A prominent feature of this section is the exceptionally detailed hand-embroidered national eagle with a 7.5 cm wingspan, set upon a red backing. Positioned below the eagle is the name Adolf Hitler applied in gilt lettering. The surname Hitler remains almost entirely complete in its gilding, while the first name Adolf shows some partial loss of the gold finish to the silk.
This artifact represents the formal state funerary customs of the period and the meticulous hand-embroidery work reserved for official government tributes.
