A fabulous identified service-worn single decal SS M.42 combat helmet, it is a textbook single decal SS helmet, much battle scarred, and there is a good area of chipping and rust stain all over. To the rear of the helmet, there is a small dented area, which is probably battle damage. The liner of the helmet is dry and is consistent with American found helmets. The original drawstring, which is present and painted in a fairly rough manner, is the soldier’s name, ‘ Tschorn’. The helmet was bought in 2009 in the United States and was then incorporated into the new museum at Malmedy, Belgium. The helmet was subsequently bought directly from the museum by us and subsequently sold; it has now been re-consigned to us. The manufacturer of the helmet is a little indistinct; this is due to the light stampings, but we are fairly confident that it is, in fact, EF, the lot number being ‘2056’ stamped to the rear of the helmet. We have also managed to find out that an Alfred Schorn was a SS Sturmmann and was killed on the Belgian border on the 12th December 1944. A fabulous historic helmet.
