German WWII Waffen SS Officers Overseas Cap

A rare and intriguing example of a Waffen SS officers overseas cap, maker marked and size stamped ‘55’. Originally an enlisted ranks side cap, it appears to have been field upgraded to officers status. The cap shows no moth damage, though there is staining and some loss of nap in exposed areas; when the side curtains are turned down, all nap is intact. Silver waffenfarbe has been added to the upper portion of the side curtain, with an 8 cm loss to the right rear. The eagle is a heavily worn enlisted ranks example, likely original to the cap, while the skull has been replaced with a metallic version sewn through the eye sockets—one pin remains secure, the other slightly adrift. The white inverted V waffenfarbe is present beneath. Small rust holes at the upper envelope closure reflect the historic use of safety pins for fashion. A super rare, service-worn cap.
