A very scarce and generally excellent condition example of a Waffen-SS enlisted man’s visor cap; private purchase construction, though closely following the form and materials of the saddle-shaped issued caps of the late 1930s.
Made in field grey-green wool with white piping for infantry; the cap features a tightly fitted black wool centre band, standard SS single-buckle central chinstrap, and black side buttons. The national eagle and skull insignia are present, with finish loss visible on both.
The body retains excellent nap overall, with only a light scattering of minor moth nips and a few small moth repairs to the crown area. The interior is lined in russet brown brushed cotton—very much in line with early army examples—bearing the private retailer mark of Karl Happe, Lüdenscheid. The owner’s initials “O.N.” are hand-applied to the inner crown.
The brown leather sweatband remains supple and complete, though the internal forehead cushion has hardened and partially crumbled with age. Cap is approximately size 57. Previously sold by us in 2013 and now returned to the market by consignment.
