German WWII U-Boat Binoculars

A very nice set of BLC-marked 7x50 binoculars, retaining the majority of their original battleship grey finish, though showing some minor abrasions consistent with service use. All rubber covers for the lenses and eyepiece areas are intact and in good condition. The optics are excellent, complete with the original lens cover, which remains attached to the main body via a rubber strap.

The neck strap appears to be a later replacement, likely of British origin. At the end of WWII, hundreds of these binoculars were captured by British forces, as their occupation zone included all major naval ports. In the 1950s, the British Government auctioned captured material, during which many of these binoculars were purchased in bulk—primarily by a Scottish optics company—and marketed for sale at prices equivalent to a week’s wages per set.
