A very good example of a barn-found M40 combat helmet, issued originally as a straight single decal. The size stamping to the interior rear skirt is obscured by overpaint and is no longer legible.
The exterior retains virtually all of its wartime-applied camouflage finish, consisting of a two-tone green overpaint, applied more thinly over the crown. The army decal remains clear and well-defined, with only minor abrasion near the right arm of the emblem.
The liner is original to the helmet, with all tongues intact, though the leather shows signs of age-related rot. Two hand-applied names appear to the inner rear skirt, both reading ‘Ronsch’. The first appears to have been partially overpainted during camouflage application, prompting the owner to reapply his name over the new finish.
A portion of the chinstrap remains attached but is fragile, with the tip broken. A very interesting and untouched example showing true combat use.
