A solid and representative example of the German WWII SS M.36 officer’s presentation piece; featuring a generally good blade with signs of past cleaning. As expected for this type, the blade is non-maker marked, with strong depth to the Meine Ehre heißt Treue motto. This is a later plated example, retaining much of its original finish on both upper and lower cross guards.
The ebony wood grip shows a repaired chip to the upper right-hand side—appears to be an original fragment reinserted. The SS enamel inset remains intact, paired with an aluminium national eagle. Minor indentations and slight chipping are present on the lower rear left side of the grip. The piece is housed in an anodised scabbard, which may indicate a transitional form from earlier nickel types. All three scabbard mounts are bright, with only minor bubbling noted on the upper mount. The ball of the lower mount remains completely intact.
The attached chains are in very good condition, with slight plating wear to the reverse side of the sprung catch. Overall, a well-matched and well-fitting M.36 officer’s display piece, exhibiting a classic configuration with authentic age and handling characteristics.
