This is a well-preserved example of the standard-issue German infantry spade used throughout the Second World War. A vital piece of field equipment, this tool was essential for both defensive positioning and daily camp maintenance.
The spade head is in nice condition, showing evidence of some light surface oxidation that has been previously cleaned to reveal a solid metal surface. The wooden haft is excellent, remaining sturdy and showing no signs of cracking or significant damage.
The tool is complete with its original black leather carrier, often referred to by collectors as a frog. This leather housing includes both original belt loops and the securing strap with its original metal buckle, all of which remain intact and functional. Finding these tools with their original leather carriers still present and in good condition is increasingly difficult, as the leather often degraded or was separated from the tool over time. This is a primary piece of combat gear, perfect for a field equipment display or for completing an infantry impression.
