An extremely nice Red Cross officials display piece, featuring a pristine central element that retains its bright cross grain finish. These examples were never maker marked. The original leather washer remains correctly fitted between the upper section and the Red Cross cross guard.
The cross guard and upper pommel, often prone to corrosion, are in superb condition, with only two minor areas of plating lift on the back edge of the upper pommel. The grip is excellent, showing just one small mark midway down the front face.
Complete with its original dress knot, the piece is housed in an undamaged scabbard. The scabbard shows light thinning to the plating on the side edges, two small discoloured spots on the lower front pebbled area, and some wear on the reverse side of the scabbard bands. Both upper screws at the throat are unturned.
It is also accompanied by a good set of service-used brown and silver straps. The unmarked belt clip functions correctly, with all springs on the attachment clips intact and working as they should.
A desirable and well-preserved display piece for collectors of WWII medical or Red Cross memorabilia.
