This remarkable grouping of documents belongs to Oberst Theodor Graf Schimmelmann Von Lindenburg, Commander of Panzer Regiment 15, and showcases a distinguished career across both World Wars. The collection includes the full presentation citation for the prestigious Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, awarded to Von Lindenburg on May 14, 1941, for his exceptional actions during the invasion of Yugoslavia. The citation is signed by Adolf Hitler and housed in its original red folder created by the renowned artisan Frieda Thirsch. The exterior of the folder shows only minor scuffing, while the gilt Reich eagle on the front remains in excellent condition. The interior documents have some slight signs of dampness, but the signature of Hitler and the recipient's name remain pristine.
Also included is a variety of other significant documents, such as the preliminary award document for the Knight's Cross, signed by General Field Marshall Von Brauchitsch, along with a large, beautifully decorated citation for the German Cross in Gold, signed by Field Marshal Keitel. There are additional award citations for the Winter Medal in the East, Wound Badge in Black, and several other prestigious decorations, highlighting the recipient's valor and service across multiple fronts during WWII. Other documents include his promotion to Major, his 1914-18 War Honour Cross, and awards from his service in Finland during WWI.
A fascinating aspect of the grouping is a series of personal letters and photographs, including one signed portrait of Von Lindenburg in full regalia. Additionally, there are various pieces of correspondence, including letters of congratulations from both military and civilian sources, and modern translations detailing his military career, including a U.S. Navy case study on the 11th Panzer Division’s actions during the Chir River battles.
This exceptional collection represents a significant piece of military history, offering a rare glimpse into the service and legacy of one of Germany’s most distinguished Panzer commanders.
