A superb and complete Panzer Leutnant’s uniform set, comprising the black wrap-over jacket and matching trousers. This very tunic, of large proportions, was originally sold by us some years ago and has recently been reacquired. It is one of the well-known Panzer uniforms brought out of the former Soviet Union in the early 1990s by North American dealer George Peterson, who retrieved many original German militaria items via Russian theatrical costumiers. These examples are identifiable by the Russian stampings inside the lining, accompanying the original German markings.

The tunic itself is a Berlin 1940 issue, constructed from excellent quality early-war black wool, completely free of moth with outstanding nap throughout. Fitted with a fine set of wartime slip-on pink Panzer shoulder boards (slight moth evident), matching pink silk-piped collar patches with aluminium skulls, and the early machine-threaded white eagle on black backing. Loops remain for two awards. The jacket is full-length, unlike many shortened by one button’s length during wartime service, a period fashion that is of historical note. All original buttons are fitted.

The accompanying trousers are of matching high-quality black wool, complete with hidden three-pronged herringbone belt, standard white cotton lining with profuse but indistinct markings, and blued buckles at the ankles. Minor period repairs include a small stitched patch to the lower leg and a 19cm sewn repair near the crotch area—possibly added later for film costume use when these uniforms were held in Russian costumiers.

A very fine, complete Panzer officer’s uniform set with excellent provenance and condition.
