A complete grouping comprising the four-pocket M.36 officers tunic, bergmütze, and soldbuch belonging to Obergefreiter, later Leutnant, Johann Nowak. The tunic is in enlisted-ranks quality with standard four-pocket construction, pleated flaps, and a dark green collar showing slight moth damage to the nap. Fitted with slip-on mountain green Leutnant shoulder boards with silvered regimental ‘98’ numerals and subdued wartime grey silver lace. Collar patches are bullion type with mountain green centres, and a hand-stitched bullion wire officers’ breast eagle is present.
Awards and insignia include one East Front Medal ribbon, Iron Cross 2nd Class ribbon in the second buttonhole, original Infantry Assault Badge in silver, DRL sports badge in bronze, and the enlisted ranks Bevo woven edelweiss sleeve badge on the right sleeve.
The bergmütze is in enlisted quality, with thin nap, silver officers’ cording around the crown, and an officers’ Bevo woven T-shaped eagle and cockade. Interior features a leather sweatband in the forehead area, wear to the rayon lining, stamped size 57, and maker’s mark from Heidelberg. A full metal edelweiss badge is attached to the left-hand side.
The original soldbuch includes a pass photograph in civilian dress, pen-signed across the photo, documenting Nowak’s promotion from Obergefreiter to Leutnant on 1 December 1944. It confirms service with the 11th Company, Gebirgsjäger Regiment 98, entries for hospitalisation, and awards including the Infantry Assault Badge (11/41), Iron Cross 2nd Class (6/42), and East Front Medal (11/42).
Also included are a spare set of stitch-in Gebirgsjäger Leutnant shoulder boards and a single Feldwebel slip-on shoulder board with regimental numerals ‘98,’ showing minor moth wear.
