The original darkened colour is visible beneath the side curtains, the remainder of the cap has toned to a lighter shade, and the original colour within the upper envelope is visible. As is well known, the Luftwaffe tropical items were made in three weights of material: lightweight smooth, semi-grained. This is what we would call a semi-grained material; it has a small version of the grey machine embroidered eagle on a light tan grained background. Correct tropical cockade. The manufacturer marked ‘Berolina 1941’ with ‘57’ size stamped to the interior.
