A fascinating and exceptionally rare variation of the standard Kriegsmarine ship’s clock, this example was repurposed for use aboard a Luftwaffe flak ship. The clock retains its standard face and remains in full working order. To the left of centre is the Luftwaffe eagle, flanked by the letters “F.L.SCH.”, denoting Flak Artillery Ship. A very light attempt has been made to de-nazify the swastika beneath, though it remains clearly visible.
The brass clock body has been ingeniously mounted into what appears to be the boss of a British-marked French wooden propeller, possibly from a WWI 130 HP Clerget engine, and is supported by four brass stands. The propeller bears markings including “130 HP CLERGET” and a British Air Ministry stamp near the clock’s opening catch. The clock’s movement is marked “12617” and accessed via a sliding wooden panel on the rear of the propeller boss.
It is likely that this unique piece was assembled under German occupation during WWII, using a captured WWI propeller as the mount. A rare and striking display piece combining elements of both world wars.
