A private purchase saddle-shaped enlisted man’s or NCO visor cap from the reserve section of the Luftwaffe, or possibly a late-war Luftwaffe field police example. Constructed from private quality grained officers’ cloth, the cap initially appears to feature yellow Waffenfarbe; however, this has faded from the rare Luftwaffe orange, which designates reserve personnel or late-war field police.
Lifting the rear overhang reveals the upper section of the mohair band distinctly orange in colour. Similarly, lifting the front chinstrap exposes a faded orange beneath, while the remainder of the Waffenfarbe has toned to a flight yellow.
The cap is fitted with a matched set of stamped steel Luftwaffe eagle and cockade, a standard leather chinstrap, and a double-thickness edged visor. It is free from moth damage throughout.
Inside, the mid-tan leather sweatband remains complete, showing some loose stitches near the forehead area and minor abrasions toward the rear. The side lining is the classic russet brown brushed cotton, with the crown lined in a stronger, waterproof russet brown material.
The large central celluloid lozenge is intact and unmarked by makers or retailers. The leather sweatband is stamped size 54 ½. A name appears to have been erased inside the sweatband.
