GERMAN WWII LUFTWAFFE PARATROOPER HELMET WITH STRING COVER

A small size late war M.38 paratrooper helmet. The skull is unusually non size stamped, the batch number is very faint of ‘4252’ into the inner rear skirt, but no evidence of a size stamping can be seen. The paint finish is all original, it has the late war aluminium slotted screws and is fitted with a superb strung helmet net. The interior liner is complete but with some damage and what appears to be a collector repair in one area. The faint remains of the maker’s ink stamping can be seen. The liner has solidified in places with much evidence of barn storage. All that remains of the straps are one side letter ‘Y’ section without its metal fittings and the one long strap from the opposite Y section, one short section of that same side cut. Many images during the Normandy campaign can be seen of the paratroopers wearing these string nets full of foliage. We estimate the size of the helmet to be 55 or 56. All the rubber sections to the liner are complete and have solidified.
