This is a very clean and historically significant visor cap for a non-commissioned officer or enlisted man serving with the Luftwaffe. The cap is size 57 1/2 and is constructed from issue-quality wool. The nap of the cloth remains thick, with only a single moth nip noted on the rear overhang.
The cap features the yellow piping associated with the flight and paratrooper sections, along with a standard mohair centre band. It is fitted with a matching set of aluminium insignia and the standard double-oval buckled leather chin strap. The front peak is the double-ribbed style typically seen on Luftwaffe headgear.
The interior is particularly noteworthy for its unit markings. Stamped into the leather sweatband is the designation for the Luftwaffe parachute training school at Stendal (Fallschirmschule Stendal), which was the primary training facility for German paratroopers. The sweatband also bears a German quality leather stamp. While the celluloid lozenge is missing, the internal markings remain reasonably clear, showing a Berlin-based maker, a 1937 date, and the size 57 1/2. This is a rare example of a unit-marked cap from the foundational era of the German paratrooper forces.
