A rare and exceptional example of Luftwaffe officers headdress, this large size visor cap (stamped size 59) features its original tan leather sweatband and a removable white cover in the standard grained fabric, showing slight age discoloration. The white cover is adorned with a heavy silver wire woven eagle on a white felt background, securely pinned in three places. The cap displays the classic mohair officers’ center band, matching wire woven national cockade, officers’ cap cords, and standard pebbled side buttons. The ribbed-edge peak shows minor crazing consistent with age.
The interior boasts a white rayon lining with an intact celluloid lozenge bearing the gold-blocked name ‘Max Lindner Uniform Fabrik Munich’ alongside a telephone number.
Accompanying the cap is the ultra-rare removable blue Luftwaffe officers cover, complete with silver waffenfarbe around the crown and a matching heavy bullion eagle hand-sewn to the fabric. The blue cover’s heavyweight rayon lining has discolored with age but retains an unbroken center celluloid lozenge from a different maker, ‘Ferd. Matt Mutzen Uniformmutzen Germershein.’ The cover attaches snugly to the cap via identical press studs as found on the white cover, and shows no moth damage or staining.
A highly desirable piece for Luftwaffe collectors, combining both the standard and rare removable covers.
