A very fine example of an enlisted man’s or NCO visor cap for the elite Hermann Göring Division of the Luftwaffe. Stamped size 56 to the interior, this cap is constructed from excellent quality Luftwaffe blue-grey cloth, retaining strong nap throughout. One small moth nip is present just below the crown waffenfarbe to the left of the Luftwaffe eagle. The waffenfarbe is in white, applied to the crown and both upper and lower edges of the mohair centre band.
Fitted with a matched and untouched set of Luftwaffe eagle and cockade in aluminium, along with a standard double buckle chinstrap and a double-ribbed fibre visor. The interior features a bright light tan leather sweatband, showing only minor wear at the forehead. The inner lining is constructed from two-tone russet brown brushed cotton, and is dated 1938 beneath the complete and undamaged celluloid centre lozenge.
Below the lozenge, the silver-blocked maker’s mark of G.A. Hoffmann, Berlin is bright and fully legible. The orange forehead cushion behind the sweatband has solidified and broken away over time, with faint remnants still visible. A scarce and desirable example linked to one of the most recognizable units of the Luftwaffe.
