German WWII Luftwaffe Hauptgefreiter Four Pocket Tunic

A very nice condition large size four-pocket Luftwaffe tunic for a Flight Hauptgefreiter. The cloth nap is magnificent overall with no visible moth damage, either from holes or tracking. Fitted with a stitch-in set of yellow wool-piped shoulder boards, each featuring a section of Luftwaffe tress at the base, possibly indicating an officer candidate.

The collar has yellow cording and yellow wool collar patches, each set with four gulls. The breast eagle is finely applied above the left-hand pocket. On the upper right sleeve, worn as on the tunic, is the Hauptgefreiter three-row rank insignia.

The interior lining is heavyweight Luftwaffe blue-grey brushed cotton, profusely marked “UNIFORM FABRIK ERLANGEN” with a Luftwaffe acceptance stamp “LBA(s)39.” There is a full complement of size stampings plus a further “LBA39” acceptance stamp on the edge of the inner pocket. The bandage pocket is complete. All buttons are present for fitting an inner collar.

On the lower left sleeve, below the Hauptgefreiter patch, is the flying personnel trade patch, machine embroidered in silver grey on a slightly lighter shade of Luftwaffe backing material.
