As collectors of Luftwaffe ground troops smocks will know, there are many variations in camouflage patterns, but the basic construction remains consistent across all types. This includes a five-button front, two press-stud fixtures on each sleeve, two lower pockets with buttons, a standard collar, and loops for shoulder boards. The most common example is the splinter pattern herringbone twill material, non-reversible. Other variations, such as this one, are less frequently encountered.
This particular smock is in the rare tan and water camouflage pattern, made from a smooth-cut canvas duck material, non-reversible. It features the distinctive Luftwaffe grey embroidered eagle with a green herringbone backing, machine-stitched in the original cross-hatched pattern to the upper left breast. A full complement of size markings and RB numbers are ink-stamped to the upper inner pocket bag, confirming its authenticity.
This smock is in outstanding condition, with no damage, repairs, or moth holes, and it appears to have been lightly used. The Luftwaffe blue-grey buttons are all present and intact. The pattern on this smock is virtually identical to the tan and water pattern found on a recently acquired armed forces winter pattern anorak listed on our website, which also bears Luftwaffe LBA acceptance markings.
This smock is an exceptional piece, making it a fine addition to any Luftwaffe ground troops division collection.
