A scarce M43 officer’s field cap worn by the Generalluftzeugmeister, civilian technicians employed by the Luftwaffe in maintenance and supply, distinguished by their unique eagle and cogwheel insignia. This good-sized example, stamped ‘56’, is RB numbered and dated ‘7/43’ to the dark grey/maroon rayon lining. The interior shows cracking and wear to the half-moon shaped forehead sweatband. Externally, the cap retains excellent nap to the cloth with only a single moth nip to the front peak. Completed with silver wire officer’s waffenfarbe fully surrounding the crown, the large and impressive Generalluftzeugmeister insignia, an enlisted ranks Luftwaffe cockade below, and the standard double-button front.
