During WWII, the Luftwaffe only had two manufacturers of chronographs, Tutima of Glashutte and Hanhart from the Black Forest area. Out of the two makers, the Tutima watches are the most difficult to obtain. Our example is numbered ‘207161’, the number sequences are shown in the excellent work Military Watches & Clocks by Konrad Knirin, published in 1998, all written in German, page 214. The face has all the numbers clear but toned, the name ‘Glashutte’ with the logo ‘T’ above is still clear; these normally fade away. The watch is missing its second hand but keeping excellent time. All of the functions are working correctly includ, including the small second hand and the fly back. The adjustable ring is jammed. The watch is fitted with a military coloured strap in an early form of plastic; the watches originally were all issued with brown leather straps. The last example of the Tutima watch we sold was for over £5,000. This example probably needs a service and definitely a replacement second-hand, and if so desired, a replacement leather strap and is therefore priced accordingly.
