A very good example of a rare Luftwaffe airfield engineers visor cap, constructed in issue-quality cloth. Non-size stamped but estimated at size 58, the cap is free from moth damage to any part of the upper body. The pink piping provides a striking contrast against the Luftwaffe blue-grey cloth, running along the crown and both edges of the mohair centre band.
Fitted with a matched set of the early droop-tailed eagle and cockade, along with a standard double buckle chinstrap. The peak is the double-edged ribbed type commonly seen on both officer and enlisted Luftwaffe caps. The interior features a mid-tan sweatband, silver-blocked with the maker’s name Johann Frey, München, and a matching name silver-blocked to the underside of the undamaged celluloid centre lozenge. The remainder of the crown and sidelining is finished in satin grey, and the cap retains a high saddle shape.
