A very scarce and impressive example, very large size, possibly 62, from the Luftwaffe Sea Rescue Service. Features a white top that has naturally toned, fixed directly to the main body of the cap. The mohair centre band has a row of black piping across its upper section and is fitted with a gilt Luftwaffe wings badge with anchors below the swastika.
Equipped with a standard fibre peak, square-edged chinstrap buckles, and black side buttons. The interior sweatband shows wear but remains intact, with hand-applied and punched initials from two previous owners. The lining is complete in the original waterproof russet brown material, though the central lozenge is missing. Most of the original gold-blocked retailer lettering remains visible.
The Air Sea Rescue Service, known as the Seefliegerhorstflugsicherung, is documented with photographs on pages 336–338 of Headgear of Hitler’s Germany by Jill Halcomb and Wilhelm P.E.R. Saris, Volume 1.
