A distinguished Krim Shield citation group awarded to Hauptfeldwebel Gerhardt Stohr of 9./J.R.31, featuring:

  • Krim Shield citation, awarded 30th December 1942, lightweight paper in excellent condition with the facsimile signature of Generalfeldmarschall von Manstein.

  • War Service Cross 2nd Class with Swords citation, awarded 8th April 1942, bearing the original ink signature of Generalleutnant H. von Tettau, Commanding Officer of the 24th Infantry Division; folded once with two minor stains.

  • Iron Cross 1st Class citation, dated 17th September 1940, unfolded and punch-holed free.

  • Large A4 citation for the 1st October 1938 medal with Prague Castle Bar.

  • A hand-written A4 letter from the Adjutant of the 31st Regiment, dated April 1942, concerning the decorations.

  • Two official letters dated 5th July 1943 to his widow detailing the circumstances of his death clearing Red Army bunkers near Leningrad in February 1943.

  • A further letter forwarding the Krim Shield award and citation to his widow in June 1943, and a fifth letter describing his military funeral.

The 31st Infantry Regiment saw heavy action during the fighting in Crimea, including Sebastopol in June 1942, assaulting the GPU and Malakoff Forts among others. A highly significant and historically rich grouping.
