The most difficult of the series of tropical helmets for the German armed forces is the dedicated Kriegsmarine version. This is the white helmet, which has toned through age, with a standard six-panelled white canvas covering to the crown, and light tan leather edging. Fitted with its gold metallic decal, which has no edge rim, as per the Kriegsmarine configuration, the national tricolour also matches without an edge rim. An example of this super helmet can be seen on Afrika Korps Volume 2, page 266, for a similar example. Four small pin holes are evident on the front; these are for the brackets that would hold the large, wide-spread winged Kriegsmarine eagle when on parade. This eagle has a single slider on the reverse side to insert it into the bracket on the front of the helmet. Light tan chinstrap. Standard light tan leather sweatband, which has seen some wear and use. Naval green interior. Stamped into the sweatband is the side-on view of a German soldier wearing a steel helmet with the name ‘Erel’ below. On pulling down the leather sweatband, a large, clear date of ‘1941’ with a size of ‘58’ is evident. A super rare tropical helmet.
