Naval helmets from WWII are becoming increasingly difficult to find, and this particular example, a German Kriegsmarine M.40 single decal helmet (EF66), is a rare and sought-after piece. The exterior retains much of its original finish, with only minor scuffing and some wear around the liner retaining rivet heads where the paint has chipped.
The deep gold navy decal is in good condition, with only a small abrasion to the lower part of the eagle's neck and two minor abrasions on the right wing. This is the correct deep gold naval decal, not the gold-toned army silver version. The rear skirt is stamped with the batch number ‘33190’.
Inside, the liner shows much of its original color, though there is noticeable wear along the lower edge from use. The liner is ink-stamped with the size ‘59’ and remains in supple condition. The original drawstring is still intact, and the liner is hand-marked with the name and identifying numbers of an Obergefreiter. The strap is an RB-numbered example and remains in excellent, strong, supple condition.
This helmet is a remarkable example of a Kriegsmarine M.40, featuring original components and signs of a well-preserved, historically significant item from WWII.
