A well-preserved and classic example of a Kriegsmarine junior officer’s dark blue visor cap, likely size 57 (though not size-marked). This is the standard "floppy" naval officer style, highly sought after for its distinctive shape and wartime character.
The exterior shows no moth damage, with a gold wire national eagle, matching gold wire chin cord, and a gold wire central cockade that has naturally oxidised to a green hue. The correct naval officer's strap remains in place, secured by twin gilded side buttons.
The interior features a light tan leather sweatband showing signs of genuine service wear, but remains complete and intact. The cap is fully lined in mid-blue rayon, with visible wear and hair oil staining to the crown—an indicator of prolonged use. Notably, this example was never fitted with a celluloid lozenge.
A fine and honest example of a Kriegsmarine officer’s cap with excellent character and originality.
