An extremely rare and impressive Kriegsmarine cap, likely size 57–58, worn by a Marine Haupthelferin. The standard boat-shaped cap features yellow piping around the side curtain, with minor moth nips and a 2cm section at the rear showing rodent damage. The lower front is fitted with a correct yellow-on-blue Bevo woven eagle.
To the left side of the cap, a circular navy wool patch displays a high-quality fouled anchor with gold twisted cord edging and two 5.5 cm lengths of tress denoting Haupthelferin rank. A collector-repaired 8 cm cut runs below the rank lace.
The interior retains the standard Kriegsmarine lining, RB numbered, with the size appearing to be 58. This is an extremely scarce example, featuring insignia never before seen, sourced from a recently acquired 50+ year-old collection. The unusual rank markings may indicate the wearer was a Marine Helferin Auxiliary, as noted in Volume 2 of Kriegsmarine Uniforms & Traditions, page 382.
