A good example of a number 65 numbered Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross in its original case, number 65 designates the company of Klein & Quenzer, the most distinctive way of identifying a number 65 Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross is to look at the ring that sits on top of the frame, the lower part of the ring appears to be flattened and sits squarely on the frame. The medal is marked 800 on the reverse side below the ring; on the ring itself, the lower loop is marked 800-65. The award appears never to have been worn; all of the satin black finish remains within the lower field, and the central core is magnetic. The award sits in its original presentation box, which is in superb condition, with the exception of the satin material that covers the two small rear hinges, which has shredded; the padded upper inner lid satin has a clear outline of the award where it has sat closed for many years. The full-length ribbon is included. Accompanying the award is a certificate of authenticity from the renowned author of the work, the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, Dietrich Maerz.
