As World War II progressed and wool shortages became critical, Herringbone Twill (HBT) fabric was widely adopted in Germany for the manufacture of tunics and trousers across all armed services. This is a superb large-size example of an Army HBT combat tunic, featuring a good green colour throughout.
It bears factory-applied mouse grey Bevo woven collar patches and a grey-on-green Bevo woven breast eagle, stitched neatly in the traditional crosshatch pattern. The interior is marked with clear white ink size stampings and is skeleton lined with grey satin. The original factory paper tag remains attached.
Fitted post-war by a collector are a fine set of mid-war field grey centred slip-on shoulder boards, piped with black twisted cord, indicating a pioneer unit.
A remarkable and well-preserved example of wartime HBT uniform.
