A good grouping of booklets and paperwork centered around Otto Heidemann, including his Wehrpass (military service book). The Wehrpass contains his photograph in civilian dress, and notes that Heidemann was born on April 5th, 1922.

Key entries in the Wehrpass include:

  • Page 11 shows his membership in the 2nd Infantry Regiment Grossdeutschland, beginning in October 1941.

  • Page 12 lists 10 individual entries dating from October 15th, 1942, to August 27th, 1943, all relating to the various units he served with within Regiment Grossdeutschland.

  • Page 23 records the award of the Medal in the East.

  • Page 32 shows a record of the areas where he served.

  • Page 24 notes that he was killed in action in Russia in 1943.

Accompanying documents include his Reichspost savings book with related paperwork, his Reichspost Ausweis (identity card), his family booklet known as Der Ahnenpass (a family ancestry booklet), a letter statement dated 1940 discussing his family history, and other associated paperwork.

The grouping also includes a photograph album from his time in the Hitler Youth containing 76 photographs. Many images show the young Otto in his HJ uniform with various comrades at camps, on mountaineering and skiing expeditions, and other aspects of Hitler Youth life. One annotation notes his attendance at the Gebietsführer Schule (District Leader School) in Langemark.

This is a highly interesting group that documents the life of a motivated Third Reich child who eventually joined the elite Regiment Grossdeutschland.
