A fascinating small group of documents relating to Gefreiter Horst Jachbczyk, born 25th May in Breslau. The grouping comprises his Armed Forces Soldbuch, showing service with a medical unit in August 1943 before joining the 10th Panzer Fusilier Regiment of Grossdeutschland in August 1944.

The Soldbuch contains numerous annotations detailing his time in various army hospitals during 1944, indicating he was wounded in action. On page 22, it records the award of the Wound Badge (Abzeichen), dated 1st November 1944, accompanied by a discharge document issued in May 1948 by a British Disbandment Control Unit.

The included Soldbuch photograph shows Jachbczyk wearing his M.43 tunic, hatless, at the age of 19. A rare and highly personal insight into the experiences of a young soldier of the elite Grossdeutschland unit.
