A very nice example of the finger rings that could be bought in the canteen of most Kriegsmarine ships, this example was bought by the 2nd in Command of the Graf Spee, The ring is very similar in design to American school rings, large shank, pierced with the face of the ring having further engraving, to the flat section ‘Admiral Graf Spee Walter Warzecha’, Kapitan Zur See Walter Warzecha was a 2nd in Command of the Heavy Cruiser Admiral Graf Spee prior to the outbreak of WWII, commanding the vessel from October 1937 to October 1938. We are not able to identify the metal that the ring is produced from; there are no silver marks. To the flat section of the ring in the engraving below the name, a small stone is fitted; again, it is not known whether this is a true diamond or another form of imitation diamond. On the outside of the shank are various markings, which we are unable to read; the ring has been made smaller, and the soldering work has obscured the markings. A highly collectable item of Graf Spee memorabilia.
