GERMAN WWII FUHRERSTANDARTE

The Führer Standarte came in many different sizes; the purpose of the flag was for it to be flown whenever in the presence of the Führer, Adolf Hitler. If he was in residence at a particular building, the large format of a flag such as this was flown; if he was travelling in a craft of some sort, smaller versions would be flown. This example has had some stitched repairs, which appear to be contemporary; there are no stains, but there is some slight moth damage on the lower edge. It is a Kriegsmarine-issued example and would have been flown from a major ship, such as a battleship or heavy cruiser on the occasion of an Adolf Hitler visit. It is Kriegsmarine marked on the canvas selvedge edge, followed by ‘Führer Standarte’ with the size of ‘2.40 x 2.40’, also with its flag maker’s silk woven label being a Company in Köln. An extremely rare artefact of the Third Reich.
