A large size M.38 field grey overseas cap in standard configuration with a single air vent. Fitted with a grey-on-green Bevo woven national eagle and matching cockade, with a run of white inverted V waffenfarbe for infantry. The cap features an unusual addition of red cording around the full circumference, possibly associated with a Foreign Volunteer unit. Two small moth holes to the right of the white waffenfarbe and some thinning to the cloth nap. Interior stamped size 59 or 60 with faint remnants of a maker’s ink stamp. The brushed cotton lining shows considerable wear, and the zinc eyelets display some oxidation. A scarce and interesting example.
