A scarce and well-preserved example of a German WWII Coastal Artillery M.43 field cap, constructed in the distinctive Coastal Artillery field-grey/green wool, and offered here in excellent condition. This cap represents a seldom-seen variant issued to personnel of the Kriegsmarine’s coastal defense units, charged with guarding Germany’s shores and strategic port facilities during the Second World War.
The cap retains its classic M.43 form, featuring a two-button front closure with both original field-grey buttons firmly intact. The wool body exhibits strong nap throughout, entirely free from moth damage, tears, or stains—a particularly rare attribute in caps of this type and vintage. The satin lining remains clean and complete, marked to the interior with size “59” and a partially illegible manufacturer’s stamp block, consistent with wartime production.
Factory-fitted insignia includes the standard T-shaped BeVo-woven yellow Coastal Artillery eagle, stitched above the national cockade, both set on green backing cloth. Of particular note, the original owner has personalized the cap by sewing a second embroidered cockade directly over the factory-applied one—a subtle but intriguing field modification that adds character and speaks to individual wartime usage.
An increasingly hard-to-find piece of Kriegsmarine field wear, this cap is both highly collectible and historically significant. Its excellent condition and unique embellishment make it a standout example for the advanced collector or museum display.
