A scarce and attractive officer’s overseas cap, constructed from fine quality soft Melton wool and showing only light service wear with minor moth tracking. The cap features silver waffenfarbe piping to both sides of the upper envelope and the front scallop, denoting officer rank distinction. To the front, an early silver weave officer’s eagle is machine-applied on a lighter green backing above a time-toned bullion wire cockade. The yellow waffenfarbe identifies this example to cavalry troops, while the traditional skull badge of the 41st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Cavalry Division, is fitted below—its finish now fully worn with age.

The interior is stamped faintly ‘57’, along with the remnants of a large maker’s mark and a partially legible date ‘1939’. Additional interior markings include a red rectangular ‘2/13’ stamp of unknown significance and Roman numerals ‘VIII’ applied to the lining. A rare and characterful example of a pre-war produced cavalry officer’s side cap.
