GERMAN WWII CAMOUFLAGE LUFTWAFFE HELMET

An M.40 helmet in a small size, the size markings are extremely difficult, if not impossible, to read, due to the congealing of the camouflage paint finish on the interior rim. Also, the batch number is giving us the same problem. The exterior finish is basically brown with splotch patterns of green. The finish is good overall, with a fair amount of loss to the crown area. There is a certain amount of flaking still going on with the paint finish. The liner retaining rivet heads retain some of their original paint finish. To the left, the paint outline of what appears to be a Luftwaffe decal appears just through a break in the paint finish. The same congealed paint finish extends to the interior of the skirt. The original liner has all its tongues complete. The stitching that holds the leather together is split. The helmet also has its original chinstrap, and the end of the strap is broken. An interesting camouflage helmet, possibly from the Italian campaign.
