A rare and completely untouched barn find example of a Waffen-SS double decal combat helmet, shell size marked Q66. This helmet retains only faint traces of its original early apple green paint, with extensive rust bleed across the shell—some areas showing deeper corrosion into the metal surface.
The national tricolour decal remains clear and largely intact. The SS runic decal has suffered from rust intrusion, though the outline—particularly the left-hand rune—is still visible. Notably, original paint remains on the liner retaining rivet heads, an uncommon detail in helmets of this condition.
The interior is fitted with a zinc banded liner with rounded strap posts. The leather is dried, congealed, and two tongues are missing, though it remains largely intact. The chinstrap, featuring an aluminium buckle, is in relatively good condition and shows a faint maker’s mark and the number 3. In our assessment, the helmet was likely recovered without a liner and later fitted with this well-matched example by a collector.
An evocative and honest SS double decal shell in as-found condition, offering strong display value and authenticity.
